Planet Ecstasy
20.03.25 – 23.03.25
In the Academy Room at Kunsternes Hus, Catriona Beckett presents an exhibition of work, Planet Ecstasy. In the exhibition space a series of paintings on paper are presented on a variety of wooden boards and frames, a digitally printed banner, excerpts of sound and a durational performance which centres around a sci-fi council in the fictional feminist epoch of the ‘Unknowing Period’.
On Saturday between 1-4 pm, a durational performance will take place where the performer repeats the same performance every 20 minutes. Please come and go as you like!
About
A thread throughout this work is the notion of ‘not knowing’ and the feminist potentialities of resisting categorisation, its relation to painting in the way that abstract image making engages in a ‘not knowing’ state of mind. This body of work plays with the uncanny: political pamphlets exist in situ with abstract painting, glimmers of deconstructed club beats and a reading of a town planning paper.
Catriona Beckett lives and works in Oslo and is currently studying Fine Art Masters at Khio. Working in painting, writing and sound performance, her practice in painting and sound is process focused and writing functions as a way to invent narratives which are lyrical, satirical, informative, intimate and fictional. These modes of working are then developed into performative events. Selected accolades include presentations of work at The Newbridge Project (Newcastle), Studio Pavilion (Glasgow) and The CCA, (Glasgow).

The exhibition is part of KHiO QuARTerly a public program at Akademirommet at Kunstnernes Hus hosted by the three visual departments at Oslo National Academy of Arts (KHiO) — Art & Craft, Design and the Academy of Fine Art.
