It is a great honor for me to become the chair of Kunstnernes Hus. A vibrant meeting place for art and artists, which is both run by artists artist-run and a key player in the Norwegian art scene.
Ebba Moi was elected as the new chair of the board at the board’s constitution on January 22, 2025. She takes over the role from colleague Pedro Gómez-Egaña. Regarding her new position, she says:
"Since its inception, Kunstnernes Hus has been an important arena for contemporary art and an inclusive meeting place for artists and audiences across generations, expressions, and backgrounds. The fact that the house is still run by and for artists is a strong motivation for me in this role.
Kunstnernes Hus is facing a necessary renovation and modernization of the building, and I want to contribute to ensuring that it meets the needs of both artists and the public in the years leading up to its centennial in 2030. In 2025, there will also be an important election regarding art and cultural policy. I want to work towards Kunstnernes Hus being a valuable space for art and discussions about the role of art in society, with room for diverse expressions and expertise. In a time marked by uncertainty and high pace, I believe art serves as an important counterbalance — a place for reflection and depth. I believe in the power of collaboration — both within the board and with other art institutions, especially small and medium-sized actors. I look forward to working with Sarah Lookofsky and all the staff at Kunstnernes Hus, building on the strong foundation that already exists there, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me."
The Kunstnernes Hus Foundation has a board consisting of seven members. Four members are visual artists, one is appointed by the Ministry of Culture, one is an independent member, and one represents the employees. The board appoints the institution’s director.
About Ebba Moi
Ebba Moi is an artist and a member of the Tenthaus art collective. Her artistic practice engages with public space and society’s complexities, with a deep understanding of the challenges and nuances involved in working within this field. She works both as an artist and curator through various self-initiated projects and collaborations, including Tenthaus — a discursive space and art collective in Oslo — as well as in a duo with Anna Carin Hedberg.
Ebba has carried out several public art projects and exhibitions both nationally and internationally, often drawing inspiration from public space in her practice. She was educated at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art and served as chair of the Norwegian Sculptors Association from 2018 to 2024. From 2021 to 2023, she was acting head of the master’s programs at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO), Department of Art and Craft.
