OCA and Kunstnernes Hus share the goal of creating connections between the art scene in Norway and global art communities. The co-location will facilitate long-term relationships across borders and strengthen Kunstnernes Hus as a meeting point for both the field and a broader audience. OCA’s new premises will be located in the studio wing of the house.

“There is a long tradition of having studios for artists at Kunstnernes Hus. We look forward to continuing this tradition and developing new offers that help strengthen international opportunities,” says Ruben Steinum (Director of OCA).

“The lease also helps to strengthen and create long-term predictability for our finances,” adds Sarah Lookofsky (Director of KH). “OCA has previously been located at Kunstnernes Hus. By expanding activities at the House, I am convinced that various new synergies will emerge.”

About the foundations

OCA – Office for Contemporary Art Norway promotes contemporary visual art from Norway internationally. OCA contributes to global exchange through various activities, including grants and residencies, visiting programs and network development, art programs and publishing. OCA is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Equality and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is responsible for Norway’s contribution to the Nordic Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia.

Kunstnernes Hus is one of the country’s most important independent exhibition venues, which since its opening in 1930 has been a central gathering place for contemporary art in Norway. The institution is owned by an independent artist-run foundation and today houses exhibition halls, a cinema, a dissemination program and various artist-driven initiatives.
