UK SPRING EXHIBITION 1980

Unge Kunstneres Samfund was founded on 28 October 1921 and today has around 600 members living all over the country.

The purpose clause of UKS states that UKS is a nationwide association for young visual artists. UKS must take care of the social and professional interests of its members and disseminate their work. UKS must also defend freedom of expression and promote understanding among artists and other professional groups.

The work for the young and unestablished is UKS's most important task. Debut exhibitions leave their mark on our business and many well-known artists have had their first exhibition with us.

The spring exhibition is UK's largest annual collection and was held for the first time in 1956 in Kunstnernes Hus, where (apart from 1968) it was an annual guest until 1970. Since then it has been held alternately in Oslo and other Norwegian cities. -l year it is back in place in Kunstnernes Hus with a large collective exhibition that includes painting, textiles, graphics, drawing and sculpture.

UKS would like to be among the many congratulators now on the occasion of Kunstnernes Hus' 50th anniversary. For many years, UKS has enjoyed a good collaboration with "Huset)). From 1935 UKS has been able to organize larger collective exhibitions here, and from 1956 the Spring Exhibition.

UKS would like to highlight the historic collaboration between Kunstnernes Hus and UKS. A look back at the spring exhibitions of 1967 and 1970 is one of many ways to do this. The fact that precisely these exhibitions took place in the field of tension between two marked periods in Norwegian artistic life may have its interest.

It is a pleasure for UKS that this year the Spring Exhibition's after-exhibition will go to Longyearbyen on Svalbard.
