Den Offisielle Svenske Kunstutstilling

06.11.48 – 05.12.48
Den offisielle svenske kunstutstillingen 1948

The official Swedish exhibition was arranged at Kunstnernes Hus in 1948 as a thank you for the Swedes' help during the war and to rebuild the relationship between the Norwegian and Swedish art scene after the war. The exhibition contained paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphics by various Swedish artists. Among the art in the exhibition, there were seven paintings painted by Prince Eugene who helped plan the exhibition before his death.

Swedish Artists

WELCOME TO NORWAY!

For a small country's cultural life, it is a necessity to maintain contact with its neighboring countries and the major cultural communities. It is by their culture that the smaller countries can assert themselves internationally. Now, perhaps to a greater extent than ever before, it is necessary to exploit the refining influence of art on the human mind.
Everything that gives life beautifying content makes the cooperation between people easier.
This time our inquiry went to the brother country Sweden, the country with the proud art traditions, and Norwegian artists thank the Swedish painters, sculptors and illustrators because they so spontaneously accepted our invitation.
The exhibition was planned in consultation with H. K. H. the painter Prince Eugene who was keenly interested in it being restored. Unfortunately, Prince Eugene passed away before the plans could be realized. Prince Eugene always followed Norwegian art with the greatest interest and for 60 years he maintained a warm and faithful friendship with Norwegian artists, from Erik Werenskiold and Eilif Peterssen to the very youngest.
The memory of the great painter and the noble personality will always be preserved in Norway in fond memory.
But we are also indebted to many other Swedish artists. The outreached hand our Swedish colleagues offered us in the dark years when everything was let go will never be forgotten. Then there was a current across the border of everything an artist needs to be able to work.
Today, Norwegian artists reach out for a warm handshake, a heartfelt thank you and a heartfelt
WELCOME TO NORWAY.
