Ceramic Workshop during Summer Break

In this workshop, participants will learn two different ceramic techniques in the company of ceramists Helle Høeg Voldstad and Mingxuan Tan. This course is perfect for children who enjoy shaping and experimenting with materials and colors.
If you wish to participate all four days, please buy tickets for both June 23-24 and 25-26.

About the course
Decal and nerikomi share similar qualities. Both techniques allow children to work with two-dimensional images and patterns that are transferred to ceramic surfaces. In the process, they apply images to a finished fired ceramic surface. While in nerikomi they work directly with clay, which is later fired and becomes ceramic. Over two days, participants learn about two different approaches to creating surfaces in ceramics.
Decals are often called sliding pictures. We have a selection of decals in different colors and patterns that children can use to compose personal motifs. The children learn how to apply them to the ceramics that have been purchased in advance from second-hand stores, and we distribute an object to each child. Afterwards, we fire the objects in the workshop, so that the images they have applied adhere.
Nerikomi is a Japanese term for a ceramic technique in which the potter places several layers of clay in different colors on top of each other and kneads the layers together to create different patterns. We introduce the participants to the technique, and allow them to work freely with the colored clay. The children control the level of difficulty themselves. The task will be to decorate a surface of clay with colored clay. The clay surface will then be placed in a plate mold where it hardens and takes the shape of a plate. After the course, the objects are fired and glazed, and the children can pick up their self-made plates a few days later.
The course is suitable for children who like to be creative – no prior knowledge is required!
Sign up alone or with a friend - we will facilitate social fellowship and ensure that everyone is seen.
The course takes place both at Kunstnernes Hus and in Keramikkstallen, a stone's throw away.
