For you between 18 and 25
Tuesday 28.11.23
KH JH workshop 6190

Are you between 18 and 25 years old and interested in contemporary art? Join us for a free guided tour and conversational workshop in the exhibition Art as Punishment and get an exclusive insight into the unusual everyday life at Agder Art Academy - a collective artwork and art school for inmates at Agder Prison.

About the event

After a 30-minute tour of the exhibition Art as Punishment, there will be a conversation workshop held in the original classroom architecture from Agder Prison, which has been recreated in the Academy Room at Kunstnernes Hus. The tour and workshop are led by one of the curators for the project, Kristine Jærn Pilgaard, as well as one of the teachers at the school. The students have been anonymised, but have contributed with questions to the workshop.

Agder Art Academy is a collective work of art in the form of a three-year art education in Agder Prison ward Froland; a collaborative work between inmates and professional artists. It is an art education produced by KORO/Kunst i Offentlig Rom. The Art Academy offers free, experimental art studies in a high-security prison, developed and run by artists, for inmates.

Through the tour and the workshop, Plot's members will have the opportunity to reflect on the following questions:

• What is the room for expression for these students and what expression opportunities do they have during and after the end of their sentence?

• How should society welcome inmates when they are released, both as citizens and as artists who express themselves in public?
