Avaz e parandegan / slik fuglane syng

Duo exhibition by Ghazaal Nasiri and Anne Marte Før
Ghazaal Nasiri Anne Marthe Før

The idea for the duo exhibition Avaz e parandegan / slik fuglane syng started with a conversation around the kitchen table between Ghazaal Nasiri and Anne-Marte Før about birds in myths and birds in everyday life.

About the exhibition

Birds have been part of myths and folk tales in many parts of the world, at many times throughout history. In our everyday lives, birds are all around us, for both the good and the not-so-good. The singing birds that give us a sign of a long-awaited spring, the sparrow that steals breadcrumbs from the table at the outdoor restaurant, the blackbird that greets us with droppings from the treetops above us as we write this text on a picnic blanket in Slottsparken.

As an Iranian immigrant, Nasiri uses myths not only as s reference point from her upbringing but also a framework through which she navigates and expresses the complexities of identity, silence, and loss in the present.

In addition to researching birds in a cultural-historical context, Før has an interest in hand memory and hand-borne knowledge; skills or knowledge that are embedded in the hands, and which are expressed using the hands to work or sculpt.

About the artists

Ghazaal Nasiri works with drawing, embroidery and textiles in her practice. Her work is deeply inspired by personal memories, automatism and the traditional crafts of the Qashqai women, and she explores themes such as identity, migration, trauma and violence.

Anne-Marte Før has a non-media-specific practice, ranging from installation, sound work, objects and sculpture to text. Før works with cultural-historical materials in a broad sense, investigating transformation, absence, space and time.

Nasiri and Før both have a master's degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo and are currently part of the studio programme at Kunstnernes Hus.
