Edmund de Waal is probably best known in Norway for being the author of the price winning and critically acclaimed book The Hare with Amber Eyes. But he is also one of the world’s leading ceramic artists. De Waal’s latest book, Letters to Camondo, comes out in Norway this September.
About the book
Count Moïse de Camondo was a renowned bankier and art collector who built a house to accommodate his collection of objects. Edmund de Waal explores this beautiful house with its grand collection of arts, furniture and objects from la belle époque through a series of sober and poignant letters to the count. Forlaget Press are very proud to invite the Norwegian audience to meet the author of this internationally acclaimed book.
Edmund de Waal will be interviewed by the Danish literary critic and translator Bjørn Bredal. Bredal has made the following statement about Letters to Camondo:
«Letters to Camondo is a superb and original study of the psychology of the collector, specifically the Jewish collector. The small castle that Moïse de Camondo creates and collects in rue de Monceau is filled with objects from the Age of Enlightenment, a century culminating with human rights – also for Jews. A French century now long gone. –The objects are crying.»
