About the release
Comfort & Relief is both a documentation of Stian and Lutz' work, an investigation of different forms of interventions in public spaces, and a self-reflexive exploration of collaboration as structure and experience, and how these interact. The central text of the book is based on three hour-long couples therapy sessions that the two artists attended with psychoanalyst and curator Sinziana Ravini in Paris in 2024.
The book is designed by Ris Pascoe (Leipzig) and published by ÅAAÅ Books (Oslo). The editor is Ragnhild Aamas.
About the artists
Lutz-Rainer Müller (DE) and Stian Ådlandsvik (NO) have collaborated as an artist duo under the name L + S, or simply as Lutz and Stian, since the mid-2000s. Collaboration also constitutes a turning point in their sculptural and site-sensitive artistic practice, where they develop both temporary and permanent conceptual interventions. One way to understand their work is as investigations into how local conditions can negotiate larger collective and global phenomena, often through subtle shifts and interventions. They both graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. Stian also studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, while Lutz also studied at the Kunstakademiet in Bergen and has a diploma from the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel. L + S live and work in and between Oslo and Leipzig.
