Book launch: Strandamalerne

Norway's Most Popular Paintings
FB1

The book explores the ignored phenomenon of self-taught painters from Vestland and Alt Går Bra's journey of discovery. Through the case of the Strandamalerne, the publication discusses current topics in contemporary art, including alternative perspectives on nature and landscape, the canons of modernity, and marginal cultures.

About the book

The book is edited by the contemporary art collective Alt Går Bra, featuring articles by key voices in the art world to reassess the phenomenon of the Strandamalerne, exploring the tension between high culture and low culture: Susanne Christensen, literature and art critic; Hans Marius Hansteen, associate professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Bergen; Geir Haraldseth, curator at the National Museum; Sandra Lillebø, author; Charles Russell, professor emeritus of English and American Studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey; Frode Sandvik, curator of modern art at Kode in Bergen; Tonje Haugland Sørensen, film and art historian at the University of Bergen; Frédérique Toudoire-Surlapierre and Alessandra Ballotti, professors at the Center for Nordic Studies at Sorbonne University in Paris (translated by Rakel Sætre); and Alt Går Bra.
