How the Home Cinema works
What is Kunstnernes Hus Home Cinema?
The Home Cinema is an independent streaming service run by Kunstnernes Hus Cinema. The service makes it possible to watch films by Norwegian and international artists and filmmakers at home. You can rent short films for NOK 29, feature films for NOK 49. The films are available in Norway and via pay per view.
How do I rent a movie?
Renting a movie is simple.
- Once you have selected the movie you want to stream, click "Rent movie".
- You are taken to the film page where you enter your email and approve the terms and conditions.
- You will be taken to the payment page. Here you can pay with Visa, Mastercard or Vipps.
- After successful payment, the film starts playing in the browser on the device you rented the film from.
- You will receive a receipt at the email address you provided. With the receipt you can start the film again or choose to watch it on another device.
Payment methods
We support Visa, Mastercard, Vipps or Swedbank Pay.
For how long is the film I've rented available?
The film is available for 48 hours from the point in time you rent the film. During this period, you can pause, stop and watch the film as many times as you want, also on several devices.
Why do I have to provide my email twice before proceeding to the payment?
You will receive a receipt for the film rental via email. The receipt contains useful information, including a link you can use to start the movie again. It is therefore important that the email address is written correctly.
I have not received a receipt - what do I do?
Check whether the email with the receipt has ended up in the junk mail or spam folder. Perhaps you have several email addresses and may have entered a different one than you thought?
If you cannot find the receipt, contact our technical supplier Norgesfilm at support@norgesfilm.no and briefly describe the issue. You will get help as soon as possible, the next working day at the latest.
Are the films also shown in the cinema at Kunstnernes Hus?
Most of the titles are films that have been shown in the cinema before, but there may also be new titles available.
Can the films be used in a teaching context?
The films at Kunstnernes Hus can only be used for private screenings.
Can I watch the films abroad?
The films can only been viewed in Norway, and you must have a Norwegian IP address.

What are the bandwidth requirements for watching movies?
- You should have an internet connection with a minimum bandwidth of 10 Mbit/s.
- Feel free to test your internet speed at e.g. fast.com
On which devices can I watch the movies?
- We recommend using the latest version of the browsers Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari.
- iPhone/ iPad: On iOS 12+ and iPadOS 13+, you must use Safari. Unfortunately, older iOS/iPadOS versions do not work due to lack of DRM support. Supports the use of Airplay (info further down).
- Mac: On MacOS from 10.11+ (and up), you can use the Safari, Chrome and Firefox browsers. When using Safari, Airplay is supported. To use Chromecast, the browser Chrome is applicable. (More on Airplay and Chromecast below.)
- Android: We recommend using Chrome on Android with OS 7.0+. Samsung Internet 12+ also works. Playback on older OS versions may work, but is not recommended. (Newer Huawei phones with user interface EMUI 10.1+, e.g. Huawei P40, are not supported.)
How do I activate subtitles?
If subtitles are not activated automatically, you can do so via the text symbol.
How do I use Chromecast or Airplay to watch the movies?
Google Chromecast
- KH Home Cinema uses a Chromecast-compatible player. You can find a quick guide on Google's Chromecast help pages.
- If you do not see the Chromecast icon in the player, it may be a good idea to restart both the Chromecast device and the Chrome browser.
- To be able to use Chromecast on Android, you must have OS 7.0+.
- Chromecast does currently not work on iPhone and iPad (iOS and iPadOS).
Apple Airplay
- Airplay is supported on Apple TV HD (and newer models). Airplay may work on older Apple TV models, but we cannot guarantee this.
- You can find a guide on Apple's Airplay help pages
Tip: Sometimes you need to actively turn on text on iPhone, iPad and Mac. This is done by pressing the tool icon at the bottom right of the player and activating text (subtitles).
