Unge Kunstneres Samfunds Vårutstilling

UKS Spring exhibition
The form in which Unge Kunstneres Samfund's Spring Exhibition presents itself this time is probably unknown to most people. The exhibition that the U.K.S. organized in Bergen's Art Association last year was an attempt to find other solutions to the traditional mass gathering. The 1971 spring exhibition was no attempt. It was a success. The audience was pleased. The artists were satisfied. Even the critics were fine.
The U.K.S. does not maintain this form of exhibition alone for new success. We just have to hope for that. But what we want, and what we believe in, is that this presentation safeguards the important interests of the performing artists.
The exhibition tells broadly about what we work with, which issues arise among us. It also shows a richer picture of the individual artist. Each athlete has more space at their disposal. He gets to say more. But does he reach the audience? Is he in touch? How does he function among other members of society? Does he work at all? These and many other questions will be part of the drive behind the Spring Exhibition.
When we first sent out invitations to members to participate, approx. 100 positive. Based on the material that came in, the jury has selected a number of artists to take part. From the very beginning, the intention has been to draw in members who have not exhibited to a large extent before. As a result, many from last year's exhibition will therefore fall away, so that new names will be added this time. We think this form of relay is correct. A trade union's task is not to establish stables with good trotters. There are enough horsemen in town for that job.
What we want is to secure a basis for our members. We want Norwegian artists to have the development opportunities that are natural for an educated and working person.
With this, we would like to be able to show around at our 1972 exhibition
Welcome!
Jørn Nilsen, Deputy Chairman in 1971.
