In recent years, Kunstnernes Hus has directed the spotlight on various subject groups with major exhibitions, Sculpture in progress, 27 young painters, Glimpse from Norwegian graphics in the 70s.
After drawing for a long time has tempted an existence in the shadow of the other art forms, we see that this relationship is about to change. At the beginning of the 1980s, we can note a new breakthrough for drawing, in diversity and breadth.
When a year ago we received an inquiry from some artists about taking the initiative for a drawing exhibition, we therefore found the proposal interesting — yes, that it was high time that such an exhibition came about. It would also be able to join a number of similar exhibitions we have had in the House.
The proposal was that artists working with this medium should share the first floor between them.
There should be free space for experimentation and an opportunity to break the distinction between subject groups.
The exhibition will therefore have strong experimental features, you will find border crossings to other art forms, but the exhibition will primarily show the enormous expressive possibilities inherent in drawing as a medium.
