Robert Storm Petersen 1949

In 1949, "Den danske koloni i Oslo" arranged an exhibition in memory of the Danish artist Robert Storm Petersen (1882-1949) in collaboration with Kunstnernes Hus. Petersen is known for his humorous illustrations, which were often printed in newspapers. In addition to black and white drawings in marker and pencil, the exhibition also included paintings, watercolors, colored drawings and woodcuts.

A small fraction of Storm's drawings - a few hundred by many thousands - are on display in these halls. We rejoice in the mischief, the depth, and the beauty of this lush art, nodding happily in recognition of this or that drawing, which on a gray day brought us sunshine and courage, and we bow in deep respect to Storm's enduring diligence, his conscientious servant spirit. Faithful day in and day out - even in the worst days of the occupation years - he sat at his drawing board at his father's little desk and diligently cared for his work.

On the modest work table are three more drawings started, part of the daily delivery to the editorial office. Fatigue has overwhelmed the diligent, dutiful artist, and he had to seek rest. A well-deserved rest after a long, busy day of work. And when we go through
these halls, which are filled with his art, we will send Master Storm P. a well-deserved thank you.
