SILVER SERIES is Kunstnernes Hus' new viewing series in our in-house cinema, where the intention is to present international artists that work with film and video, in the form of small retrospectives of past works. The first name on the list is the French artist Pierre Huyghe (b. 1962), with the presentation of four films: A Journey that Wasn’t (2005), The Host and the Cloud (2010), A Way in Untilled (2012) og Human Mask (2014).

SILVER SERIES 01: Pierre Huyghe opened on Thursday, August 30th 2018 with an introduction by scholar and curator Susanne Østbye Sæther, who has been writing extensively around Huyghe's video works.

Huyghe creates films, sculptures and installation that attempt to push the boundaries between facts and fiction, nature and culture. Often taking the form of in-situ installations, his works allow the viewer to step into a micro universe that includes anything from organic systems, insects, and underwater creatures to objects, film and music: "I’m interested in how to quantify the different variations of being alive…how to intensify the presence of things", says Huyghe. A central component in the artist's oeuvre is his enigmatic storylines that often play out in deserted landscapes and towns that one can associate with a post-apocalyptic future. Through his thorough research and meticulous execution, there is a willingness to uncover the relationship between biological and cultural systems.

Huyghe received his education from the Ecole National Supérieure des Arts Graphiques et Décoratifs in Paris. Recent solo and group exhibitions include The Broad Museum, Los Angeles (2018), Louis Vuitton Foundation, Paris (2018), LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur, Skulptur Projekte 2017, Münster (2017), Guggenheim Museum, New York (2017), The Sprengel Museum, Hannover (2016), The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2015), Ludwig Museum, Köln (2014), Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2013), Kunstmuseum Basel Museum für Gegenwartskunst (2011) og Museo de Arte Contemporanea Reina Sofia/Palacio de Cristal (2010).
