It is a special pleasure for me to welcome the exhibition "Liverpool -74" to Oslo and Kunstnernes Hus. "Special" because the exhibition is a response to the very successful Munch exhibition which was held in Liverpool at the end of 1972, and which received a fantastic reception there. A "joy" because by seeing works by Liverpool artists in Oslo we can gain greater knowledge of and understanding of cultural trends in a people close to us.
I hope that these exhibitions have interest and will arouse the interest of citizens in the two cities to visit each other. In that way, the exhibitions will really contribute to a cultural exchange.
Welcome to Oslo !
-Brynjulf Bull, Mayor of Oslo
It is with a strong sense of personal and sincere joy that on this important occasion I convey greetings from the city council of Liverpool and Liverpool's residents to the city of Oslo and its citizens.
It is not often that we are offered an opportunity like this, through the medium of an exhibition of visual arts, to emphasize the strong ties that over a hundred years have strengthened the connection between our two countries. I am pleased that The Liverpool Polytechnic and Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo have made connections in this way through the exhibition "Liverpool -74".
I congratulate all the artists who participate in the exhibition with their excellent works, and send a warm thank you to everyone who has been connected with the event and the installation of the exhibition.
-Joseph R. Wilmington, Lord Mayor of Liverpool
