Carl Kylberg, norsk sort/hvitt-utstilling

Paintings, watercolors and drawings
About the ehibition
This was Kylberg's first exhibition in Oslo, with 95 works.
Excerpt from Dagbladet with commentary from the artist himself in connection with the exhibition:
"But here in Oslo, is the first time we see something from the Swedish painter.
- Why? we ask him.
- I have not been invited before, replies the painter. Besides, I have been a little anxious about Norway. People say that the Norwegian public is the best in the world, but also the strictest. But if I had assumed that here in Oslo you had such fine exhibition halls as Kunstnernes hus, I would have arrived earlier. Before the exhibitions in Paris, Copenhagen and Gothenburg. My God, I've sold such an abominable amount that it's no wonder what I'm bringing now."
(Dagbladet, 18.3.1936)
In the second hall hung a Norwegian collective black and white exhibition, with 274 works. The exhibition included drawings and graphics.
About the artist
Carl Kylberg has been called Sweden's Munch. Just some 5-6 years before the exhibition at Kunstnerne Hus, he had his major breakthrough in Sweden, and from there his skyrocketed. For Kylberg, color is everything in painting. He shows off the color at its best. It has power and intrinsic value. It moves and expresses. He uses a relatively limited range of colours, but still manages to produce specific and unique colours. The color is used to abstract other forms.
