Liv Bugge: Vigdis–excercise

Presented by Wild Seeds
Wednesday 16.06.21
Wild Seeds promobilde

This evening is an invitation to take part in a conversation, where the first crude oil extracted from the Vigdis oil field will feature as the main guest. Vigdis is located in the Tampen area in the Northern part of the North Sea, between the Snorre, Statfjord and Gullfaks fields, and is operated by Equinor. Vigdis extracts oil from sandstone located in several deposits at depths of more than 2000 meters.

About the event

The exercise for the evening is a continuation of the conversational practice that Bugge has had with fossil matter in recent years, which revolves around fossil representation in language, images, landscapes and stories. She has previously worked with the Geological Museum in Oslo and the fossil material there, as part of the artistic research project (PHD) "The Other Wild - touching art as confrontation" (2019) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. An interest in questions relating to the normative, and how processes of normativisation are incorporated in our bodies and imposed onto the land and non-living bodies, has led her to look for mechanisms that construct and legitimize the idea of oil, soil or stone as resources. While extractive economies reject any horizontal relationship and ethics between human and oil, we try to re-consider the oil as a mere resource, to approach it as matter, as being.

The conversation takes the shape of group discourse inspired by methods from animal communication, where different parts of the body are used in image production. The conversations require that the participants are willing to partake in meditative exercises.

The session also includes a conceptual serving made by visual artist Simon Daniel Tegnander Wenzel.

About Wild Seeds
