Haiti, 1962. A man is brought back from the dead only to be sent to the living hell of the sugarcane fields. In Paris, 55 years later, at the prestigious Légion d’honneur boarding school, a Haitian girl confesses an old family secret to a group of new friends - never imagining that this strange tale will convince a heartbroken classmate to do the unthinkable.
The film will be screened in collaboration with Vega Scene and Cinemateket i Oslo.
Bonello leaves us hypnotised and hungrily begging for more.
About the film
The undead we meet in Bertrand Bonello's latest film are different from those we find in The Night of the Living Dead. This is a film that takes Haitian culture seriously, and that uses Haitian folk beliefs and history as a starting point for a horror film with a socially critical sting and a rich ideological-historical background. Combined with a spooky atmosphere and a bunch of genuinely disturbing scenes, Zombi Child is an exceptionally smart and interesting zombie movie from the director of House of Tolerance and Nocturama.
