Open Call
Sunday 01.12.24
In 2024, it will be 400 years since the medieval city of Oslo burned down and Christiania was founded in what is now Kvadraturen. Artist Sille Storihle was commissioned to create an anniversary artwork through an open call initiated by Oslo Municipality's Art Collection (Kulturetaten). The result is a film now being shown at several Deichman libraries. Kunstnernes Hus invites you to an exclusive screening of the film, followed by an artist talk between Sille and Film Curator Abirami Logendran.
This event is free and open to all, organized in collaboration with Oslo Municipality's Art Collection.
About the film
Open Call is a social satire about the conditions of public art in a complex city, where the connections between culture and commerce become entangled. Based on a competition in which artist Sille Storihle herself participated, Storihle stages a fictional competition called Open Call. The film serves as a portrait of Oslo, shedding light on ethical, political, economic, historical, and social issues surrounding public art.
The project stems from Storihle's exploration of live-action role-playing and game design as an artistic method for filmmaking. The production was designed as a role-playing game, performed at various locations in Oslo, including Gamle Munch, the Munch Museum, Sukkerbiten, the Locomotive Workshop, the Medieval Park, Haugenstua, and Hersleb High School.
The characters were played by: Nosizwe Baqwa (The Teacher), Louise Löwenberg (The Coach), Ole Asgeir Madland (The Investor), Ole Petter Ribe (The Activist), Paweł Stypuła (The Construction Worker), Sille Storihle (The Artist), Charlotte Beck Solvær (The Coordinator), Desiree Bøgh Vaksdal (The Guide), Hedda Eirin Østberg Faldet (The Assistant).
