About the film

Young and Afraid is a real and raw film about choosing life. It all starts in the autumn of 2017, when Petter is standing on top of a bridge ready to end his life. At the last minute, he is stopped by the police. To keep his dark thoughts at bay, he decides to make a film with his best friend Sverre.

Equipped with a good dose of naivety and spontaneity, Petter and Sverre document Oslo at night time. They end up in conflict-filled and unpredictable situations together with characters who eventually become part of the film. This also sets in motion a therapeutic process for Petter, as he feels less alone and more in control of the chaos inside.

Directors' Petter Aaberg (b. 1993) and Sverre Kvamme (b. 1994) unique debut film takes the audience on a roller coaster ride of anxiety and shame. It also allows us to take part in a transformative process. As Petter meets a number of other young people who are struggling, he manages to think more constructively and his thoughts and life become brighter.
