Twin brothers Kolya and Vasyl grew up hearing stories about their charismatic father who was a Yugoslav gangster both feared and admired. After many years without contact, they learn that he is dying in Luxembourg. The leading roles are played by twins Amil and Ramil Nasirov from the Ukrainian hip-hop group Kurgan & Agregat. Their natural chemistry, comic timing, and genuine brotherly dynamic give the film a rare sense of authenticity and warmth.

Directed by Antonio Lukich, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Ukrainian cinema, LUXEMBOURG, LUXEMBOURG is a warm, absurd, and melancholic comedy-drama about family, longing, and the myths we create about our parents. The film had its world premiere in the Orizzonti competition at the Venice International Film Festival and was later selected for, among others, the Toronto International Film Festival and the Bergen International Film Festival. It also became one of the biggest Ukrainian box-office successes of recent years.

Director Antonio Lukich says of the film:

“ My father died in 2016 in a wealthy European city. I didn’t know him well, and only saw him a few times in my life. Some say that he was friends with Antonio Banderas, knew Maradona personally, and dressed in Prada. Of course, we want to know only good things about our parents.

LUXEMBOURG, LUXEMBOURG is my declaration of love to my father, who was always on his way somewhere else. A man I have been trying to catch up with for so long. Through this film, I hope to find an answer to my own question: Why are we so strongly drawn to people who are constantly running away from us?”
