How to Blow Up a Pipeline
Wednesday 28.06.23
The climate crisis has reached the "point of no return". Years of demonstrating and protests have been useless and a group of young environmental activists have decided to do everything in their power to make sure that their voices are heard. They embark on a dangerous journey in the Texan desert with one goal: to blow up a pipeline.
About the film
A group of young climate activists have decided to take things to next step. They have all suffered from results of climate change and the industry which has causes it. One of them is Xochitl, the group leader, who has become an orphan after her mother died in a heat wave. Demonstrating and protesting hasn't brought about any change, and the group has decided that drastic action is necessary. What does it take for someone to be heard and taken seriously by the people who have the real power in society?
How to Blow Up a Pipeline is based on a manifest by the same name, which the climate activist Andreas Malm published in 2021. He defends sabotage as a means to fight climate change. With this at its core, director Goldhaber has created an edge-of-your-seat thriller – a heist movie influenced by the style of Ocean’s Eleven, though with a far more serious topic – which follows the activists' risky road to their explosive goal.
