Dette er ikke et eple | This Is Not an Apple
This is a story about violence, but first and foremost about responsibility, hope, and the power of choosing differently.
The Palestinian brothers Yahya and Reda live in an Oslo neighborhood where the role models are often local gangsters. What begins as a seemingly insignificant quarrel within the gang ends in an attempted murder that leaves Yahya with life-threatening injuries. Against all odds, he survives. The brothers face the choice between taking revenge or choosing forgiveness.
With support from their mother, the journey toward reconciliation begins. They also participate in the apple-growing project Líf Laga, led by Åsmund. Here, through work, community, and responsibility, they are given the opportunity to build a new life alongside other young people. When the project later expands to a nearby prison, Reda and Yahya become mentors themselves. By teaching inmates how to grow apples, they meet people who mirror parts of their own past, forcing them to reflect on justice, guilt, revenge, and forgiveness.
