Welcome to the 3 year anniversary celebration of Kunstnernes Hus Kino! The anniversary will be marked by a book launch, a panel discussion, a 16 mm performance and an extended weekend program.
A society of humans that gathers silently in the dark, that briefly lives a collective life under a unified flickering vision, and then scatter, each individual returning to their own everyday experience transformed. This is the closest to an ideal society that I can imagine.

6 PM: Book launch and panel discussion: 'CINEMA IN THE AGE OF DIGITAL LONELINESS´
"Where is Cinema" (2019, Archive Books) by Belgian artist and filmmaker Anouk De Clercq is a collection of portraits of a selection of independent cinemas and film initiatives from around the world.
The book looks at the opportunities and challenges in trying to build a culture and a social space centered around film as an art form. The initiatives portrayed are established in different contexts, in a time where film and moving images are mostly viewed on private screens and where on the other hand bigger franchises and multiplexes are dominating. Kunstnernes Hus Kino is represented in the book through interviews with architect Thomas Liu (Atelier Oslo) and Head of Kunstnernes Hus Kino Silja Espolin Johnson.

7.15 PM 16mm performance of Projection Instructions (1976, USA, Morgan Fisher, 4 min) and screening of Production Stills (1970, USA, Morgan Fisher, 11 min) with introduction. In cooperation with Greg Pope.
An exploration of the process of film making from the moment of filming to the act of projection executed with wry humour and precise observation. Every film must be performed by the projectionist. This one requires extra attention, as all the textual instructions on the screen need to be read and respected.

About the panel
Anouk De Clercq is an artist and filmmaker based in Berlin. In her work, she explores the potential of audiovisual language to create possible worlds. She is affiliated as an artistic researcher to the School of Arts University College Ghent, and a founding member of Cinema Nova, Monokino and Auguste Orts.
Mia Ferm is co-director of Cinema Project, a curatorial collective for experimental film and video in Portland, Oregon and a current MA candidate in Preservation & Presentation of the Moving Image at the University of Amsterdam. On occasion, she also performs using multiple 16mm projectors or as part of a noise duo called Champagne.
Silja Espolin Johnson is Head of Kunstnernes Hus Kino, Oslo's first independent cinema, since 2016. She has previously worked as an independent film producer.
Mike Sperlinger is professor of theory and writing at the Oslo Academy of Art and director of PRISMS, a new organisation for artists' moving image in Norway.
