About the artist
Torleiv Jørgensen Stadskleiv, born in Bø in Telemark on 10 October 1865, died on 17 August 1946. Pupil of Erik Werenskiold who also got him into The Royal Art School in Oslo under Middelthun's management. Later he was a pupil of Chr. Krong, Eilif Petersen, Hans Heyerdahl and of Professor Zahrtmann in Copenhagen, whose painting school he applied for two winter semesters for the Finne's and Hielmstierne-Rosencrones scholarships.
Stadskleiv received the Statens Kunstnerstipend and undertook study trips in 1899 to Italy and in 1900 to Paris. Exhibited for the first time at The National Host exhibition in 1887. Participated in a Norwegian exhibition in San Francisco and in The Jubileumsutstillingen in Oslo 1914. The Varden newspaper and Bø Folkekademi organized a large commemorative exhibition in Bø in 1963. Stadskleiv is represented in The National Gallery in Oslo, in The Rasmus Meyers Collection in Bergen, in The Trondheim Gallery, The Skien Picture Gallery and The County Museum for Telemark and Grenland. There are two paintings by him at The Palace in Oslo.
