Th. Kittelsen

Kunstnernes Hus had an exhibition of works by Theodor Kittelsen (1857-1914) in 1941. The exhibition included paintings, watercolors and drawings by the deceased artist. Several of his most famous motifs were represented in the exhibition; including different versions of Nøkken, Ekko and Pesta.

The KITTELSEN-exhibition had to be based on loans, mainly from Oslo and the surrounding area.
This was not possible from public collections. Several artworks have changed owners, without success in tracing these. Some important works will therefore be missed. Luckily, private owners have shown a unique kindness in lending, and other valuable assistance, which is why Kunstnernes Hus asks everyone to receive our heartfelt thanks. We have thereby been helped to practically show our own beloved Th. Kittelsen with his distinctive Norwegian temperament and mood - understood and treasured by all. A special thank you must go to Mrs. Inga Kittelsen, the artist's wife and faithful helper, who with tireless zeal has tracked down so many of the scattered works and thereby brought the exhibition to what it is.
