Tegnebiennalen

Every other year, Tegnerforbundet arranges Tegnebiennalen, an arena for the display and dissemination of contemporary art with a focus on drawing. Each biennale has its own theme, and the form, content and exhibition locations change accordingly. The first Tegnebiennale was organized in 2002 and this year is an extensive collaborative project with all its artists, galleries and those involved. Tegnebiennalen 2016 has the theme Skissen and is curated by the artist Elise Storsveen.
Artists at Kunstnernes Hus
For the exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus, we have invited three younger artists to start with Kunstnernes Hus as their point of departure. We wanted to take a new look at this well-known building, as a form of contrast to a historical and archive-based angle, because for almost a hundred years this house has had and has great significance both as a display venue for Norwegian and international art, as well as a place for social gathering. That is to say, we get three site-specific works that are both about the specific house, its history and that are created in relation to the room and space they are allocated.
Mikael Lo Presti (b. 1989) is working on paintings that deal with Per Krohg's ceiling mural with the main emphasis on the motifs and content.
Johanne Hestvold (b. 1988) will show a project based on the house's materials.
Olve Sande (b. 1984) has drawn imagined window cuts and door openings on windbreaks.
About Tegnebiennalen
The biennale will show works from 51 artists spread over 11 exhibition venues, as well as an autonomous 12th exhibition; A collective psychogeographical guide to Oslo, curated as a whole project by the three artists: Ottar Karlsen, Ida Madsen and Eirik Senje.
Tegnebiennalen 2016 is presented as a pile of ideas rather than a series of ideas. There is no chronology or clear narrative here, no beginning or end. You can start anywhere - feel free to see all of them, or just some of the exhibitions.
The biennale naturally shows a lot of drawing on paper, but also other techniques such as sculpture, textile work and woodcuts. All within the framework of the theme 'Skissen'.
