Simon Thorbjørnsen, Born 1879. After middle school and first gymnasium, he became a student of Harriet Backer. Later he went to Copenhagen, to Zarthmann, like many other Norwegian artists around the turn of the century. In 1901 he debuted at the Autumn Exhibition. In 1903 he visited Paris for the first time together with Kristen Holbe. In 1905 he was again in Paris, where he met several well-known Norwegian painters, Thv. Erichsen, Wold Torne, Gerhard Munthe, Henrik Sørensen and others. In 1922 he made a longer study trip to Italy and visited Rome, Naples, Assisi, Firenze and several other cities. In addition, he has made several shorter trips, e.g. a. to Berlin, Munich, Stockholm, Copenhagen. He had his first solo exhibition at the Kunstforeningen in 1907 and in 1914 and 1918 he had solo exhibitions at the Kunstnerforbundet. At the Autumn Exhibition he participated over 30 times. He is represented in the National Gallery, Bergen Picture Gallery, Drammens Faste Gallery, The Art Museum, Brighton and in El Museo del Arte Moderne, Barcelona, as well as in many Norwegian, Swedish, English and American private collections.
