About the artist
Otto Valstad was born in 1862 in Asker. He was a Norwegian painter and illustrator. Valstad trained as a cabinetmaker and teacher, but eventually began to paint. He made landscape paintings and portraits. He also decorated Asker Church and illustrated books. Valstad himself published five children's books, with his own illustrations.
On his death, Valstad bequeathed the property and a large collection of art and cultural-historical objects to Asker municipality. To this day, the objects can be seen at the Asker museum.
