Maleri fra Polen

Poland stands strongly in our consciousness. It is in many ways a land of surprises. In recent times, Poland has moved towards the limit of what we thought was politically possible. In other fields, and that is what is relevant here, people have also moved on the border, indeed often exceeded it.
Poland has been an experimental workshop for the visual arts, primarily for textile and poster art, but also for music, theater and film. This power center has operated all over Europe; it has also opened up new paths for many Norwegian artists.
In this country, over the years, we have seen several exhibitions of Polish graphics, textile art and sculpture.
Certain artists have become particularly important to us, we mention two — Abakanowicz and Hasior.
Polish painting has been a less frequent guest. When Kunstnernes Hus received an inquiry from Poland about exhibition collaboration last year, we therefore thought that the time had come to show an exhibition of Polish painting. We hope that the 14 participating artists will give our audience an impression of the breadth of contemporary Polish painting.
