This exhibition consisted of drafts, sketches and studies in ink, gouache, chalk and pencil for Orozco's mural at Dartmouth college. The exhibition was divided into the preparations for the mural's various fields: Migration, human sacrifice, Aztec warriors, Quetzalcoatl's arrival, the golden age, Quetzalcoatl's departure, the prophecy, Cortez and the cross, maschingne, Anglo-America, Hispano-America, gods of our time, human sacrifice of our time and the coming of the new spirit. All in all, there were 50 processors that were shown in this exhibition.

Kunstnernes Hus har tidligere hatt den store glede å presentere meksikansk kunst fra vår egen tid. Rufino Tamayos utstilling i 1959 blev en stor begivenhet, og utstillingen av de to ganske unge meksikanerne Rodolfo Nieto og Francisco Toledo i 1962 har vi i friskt minne. Siste vår fyllte meksikansk grafikk den samme sal hvor nu José Clemente Orozcos arbeider henger.

Rivera, Orozco, Siqueiros vi kjenner dem fra bøker, disse tre berømte muralmalere, klassikerne i det moderne Mexicos kunst. Man må til Mexico eller U.S.A for virkelig å lære dem å kjenne, for deres arbeider kan ikke flyttes, men blir hvor de er. Imidlertid har Kunstnernes Hus fått anledning til å vise endel av Orozcos forarbeider til hans muralmalerier, freskene i Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, noe som vi er The Museum of Modern Art i New York meget takknemlig for.

About the artist

Osé Clemente Orozco (1883-1949) was a Mexican painter and caricaturist. He is best known for his murals, and helped start the Mexican muralism art movement, an art movement whose mission was to unify Mexico after the Mexican Revolution. Educated at the Academy of San Carlos, Orozco began his artistic career as a newspaper illustrator for newspapers in Mexico City.
