1953 Henri de Toulouse Lautrec

The book and film "Moulin-Rouge" have aroused a great interest in Toulouse-Lautrec. We have caught a glimpse of his life and his environment, and learned about his unhappy fate.

With this exhibition, we present him in a different way. These graphic works do not tell much about his personal tragedy, but in return so much more about his environment, about his human view of others, and about his unerring insight and his technical skill. In short, the exhibition shows Lautrec's ingenious artistic efforts and we believe the public will follow it with the same interest that has become "Moulin-Rouge".

We would also like to thank everyone who, through loans or information, has made the exhibition possible, museums and private individuals. And first and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to wholesaler Herbert Melbye, Copenhagen, whose large Lautreæ collection forms the core of this exhibition.
