HENNY LIE

Henny Lie is one of the few Norwegian photographers who has an extensive artistic education: Interscandinavisk Dekorationsskole, Copenhagen, Parsons School of Design, New York? Bergen School of Arts and Crafts and Vestlandets Academy of Arts, Bergen. Previously, she has worked with drawing, • graphics and painting, and then used the camera as a sketch and support tool. Now photography is the main medium. 1 In 1980, she was awarded the state's three-year work grant. She has been purchased by the Norwegian Culture Council, Bergen permanent gallery, Haugesund gallery, Fotografiska Museum, Stockholm, Henie-Onstad Art Center, Høvikodden and Preus Fotomuseum, Horten. She has participated in a number of exhibitions since she made her debut in her hometown of Haugesund in 1977, and she was born in the year of liberation in 1945. She has been represented at the autumn exhibition in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981, and she has exhibited in Poland, France and Sweden.

Henny Lie is known, among other things, for her photographic montages, she collects the photographic material and uses it as building material for larger works. In this way, she creates interesting and personal visual expressions, which turn into an exciting and fascinating experience for the viewer. One of the first works of this type was reproduced in large format in the country's largest newspaper, and the image, which was only made in 1 copy, was purchased by the Culture Council. The montages are now made in a maximum of 10 copies.

Her pictures in mixed media are also very unique, where she e.g. has allowed agate stones to fall into the subject of the photograph. "Railway with agate" and "Agate in the gutter" are examples of this idea. Some of her pictures are called sequences, where the motionless photographs give the viewer the impression of movement in space and time.

She herself says: "Perhaps the photographer is the most realistic artist. Trained to draw the essential, the maximum out of the minimal and often anonymous in our everyday life".
