About vinyl printing/gravure cutting.
I use vinyl coverings (floor coverings) which are processed with traditional wood carving tools and sandpaper. I prefer to work with vinyl as it is tough, durable and resilient compared to wood and linoleum. The vinyl can be cut into fields that are inserted in each color and then assembled and printed (Munch's world-renowned woodcut technique/ letterpress printing). I use ordinary copper print hosts, water colors and dry pastels that are crushed with sandpaper and hammered into the incisions as with copper printing. Can combine letterpress and gravure printing. The paper I use is ordinary moistened copper printing paper.
The first time I used the technique was in 1972 at Oslo Husflidsskole. In the last two years at the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts, I have primarily experimented with the technique.
