Einar Sandberg

In 1937, Kunstnernes Hus had a retrospective exhibition with Einar Sandberg (1879-1947). The exhibition was hung by Sandberg himself and contained works produced from 1905 to 1937. Works such as Anne from 1905 and Ved Mjøsen from 1927 were exhibited.
About the artist
Einar Sandberg was born in 1879 and grew up in Fredrikstad. Sandberg was particularly interested in landscape paintings, especially Norwegian nature. He often stood and painted at Forsetsetra in Gausdal Vestfjell.
He attended Henri Matisse's painting school in Paris in the winter of 1909-10.Sandberg was a central figure among the many artists living in Lillehammer. After his death, a memorial stone was erected over him at the lyngraben where he found his favorite motifs.
