About the collector
Müller was a local doctor, and lived on the Turmo estate at Otta in Gudbrandsdalen. Müller was very interested in art, and had a large and diverse collection of younger art/paintings by the best Norwegian artists. It was seen as a somewhat unusual collection, but Müller himself explained it in the following way: "I cycled my way to my first paintings as a young district doctor. I saved up my transport allowance, and with my first hundred and fifty kroner I traveled to Oslo and joined the Artists' Union. The rumor that a mad doctor from Otta bought modern art spread like lightning among the painters, and eventually I got to know them all." (Dagbladet, Thursday, January 3, 1935) Müller was also very interested in literature, and had a rare collection of books. Incidentally, his daughter Ingrid from a previous marriage was married to Axel Revold. Müller is portrayed by Aksel Revold. The painting collection was shown during an exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo in early 1935. Reidar Müller died in 1935 at the age of 66 and is buried in Sel cemetery.
