Dislocating Surfaces

Kunstnernes Hus is proud to present Dislocating Surfaces – New Scandinavian Photography. The exhibition is curated by MELK, a gallery established and run by the artists Bjarne Bare and Behzad Farazollahi.
About the exhibition
In 2015, MELK and the London-based publisher Black Dog Publishing jointly published the book New Scandinavian Photography. The aim of the publication was to present young Scandinavian artists who engage in a critical dialogue with photography as an art form and who both recognize and challenge the medium's traditional framework.
The exhibition is not intended to represent the book as such. Rather, the motivation has been to present a new project in which the various perspectives in the book are carried forward. The exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus also presents a new group of artists who explore photography both within and outside the framework of the media-specific discourse. They deal with material processes and ideas related to surface and depth, engage in dialogue with other media such as visual art, sculpture and film and actively use the exhibition space itself. With challenging, playful and seductive means, they show a photograph that seeks out new spaces and formats and that opens up for experimentation and the game of chance.
