About the artist
Dagfin Werenskiold (1892-1977) was a Norwegian painter, graphic artist, sculptor and illustrator. His father was an important person in the Lysaker circle, which played a major role in Norwegian art and culture. It was therefore clear from quite early on that Dagfinn would become an artist. He showed early that he had a talent for art with his wood reliefs and had his first solo exhibition when he was 17 years old.
Werenskiold was inspired by Norwegian folk art and several of his motifs show Norwegian peasant life with a powerful and simplified idiom.
