Anna-Eva Bergman

Anna-Eva Bergman (1909-1987) exhibited a number of works at an exhibition held at Kunstnernes Hus. This exhibition, with the same name as her, could be seen from March 12 - April 3, 1966. The exhibition was also shown at Bergens Kunstforening in the period 6.-22. May 1966. What you could see in the exhibition were works she had made between 1952-1966, these paintings showed her development from a nature depicting expression, to her experimenting with the abstract. And thus, how it eventually came to a point where she had acquired a much more refined and abstract expression with a minimal use of colour and where she used both gold and silver foil in her work.

ANNA-EVA BERGMAN
"Her art should not be unknown to the Norwegian public, as she exhibited in Oslo in 1959 and 1961. But the truth is that she has not had much success in her home country. In any case, several of our critics were not convinced by her form of expression. This time, however, she has presented a far more comprehensive exhibition that should provide a truly comprehensive presentation of her art, especially as it offers a chronological overview of her development from 1952 to the present day. Anna-Eva Bergman writes: “Speaking of titles, I paint the pictures first, and the titles or names come to me quite naturally, as a kind of association of ideas afterwards. Of course, I know in advance what I want to paint - but more as an idea or something imaginary. It never turns out exactly as I wanted, but something else, so I continue with the same motif several times."
