About the workshop
For over three years Robert has been relying on the postal service to write and receive letters to friends, artists and complete strangers. In this workshop participants will be encouraged to think about the implications of using this slow method of correspondence in our heavily digitised, information age.
Participants will be given writing prompts and exercises centred around postcards and poetry. They will have the chance to produce beautiful copies of their work using the risograph printer. At the end of the workshop we will share and prepare the material for mailing in the post and decide on the lucky people who get this unexpected gift in their post box.
Everyone is welcome to bring something with them to kick start the workshop. This can be a letter they received in the post, a special card they have kept, an unwanted bit of ‘junk mail’ or simply something they think will make a nice addition to the mail art package (a photograph or drawing).
About the artist
Robert Carter (b. 1987, Blackburn) is an artist and writer from Lancashire living in Oslo who works with video, print making and self-publishing. He graduated from the Bergen Art Academy MFA program in 2020. His first short film Notes on Dad which depicted the artist and his sister cleaning their father’s apartment together, was selected for Høstutstillingen (2022) and Vestlandutstillingen (2023). His latest project Notes on Bags (2024/25) is a video based collaboration with artist Katrina Cobain and the Plastic Bag Museum in Glasgow, due for release in 2026.
He regularly takes part in art book fairs in Norway and abroad including Athens Art Book Fair in 2024. Recent riso publications include Terje and I Have a Disagreement and Kevin Dott’s Autobiography - a short story inspired by a sports biography the artist has never read.
