Riso printing and collective publishing

Printing workshop with Marie Payan
Tuesday 09.01.24
Zubair

Join a hands-on, interactive printing workshop during the exhibition Art as Punishment.

Not familiar with riso printing yet? No stress, this workshop is a great start to your Riso journey! Let your mind and creativity flourish in this playful and colorful process.

About the workshop

You will learn basic techniques for making your own riso prints and become better acquainted with the machine during the evening. We will be inspired by the ongoing exhibition Art as Punishment to create content (collages, drawings, text, textures, etc.) to create a collective, two-tone publication directly from the printer's scanner.

Risoprinting stands out for its affordable cost level, layered color processes and characteristic aesthetics, characterized by intense colors and desired unevenness. Ideal for small runs and environmentally friendly with soy-based inks, this printing technique provides a unique opportunity to explore creativity through varied materials and create handcrafted, artistic expressions.

All necessary equipment will be provided on site, so just bring your curiosity and creativity with you! There will be light refreshments.

No experience needed and everyone is welcome.

About Marie Payan

Marie Payan (b. 1993, Montpellier) is a versatile artist and designer with a focus on community, voice expression and artistic processes. Through various artistic methods, she creates inclusive environments for personal growth and reflection. In her own practice, Marie combines visual arts and storytelling, design and community engagement to explore the rich diversity of human experiences. She creates artworks that challenge norms and encourage shared reflection through the exploration of visual narratives and concepts.

Marie is also part of JAM Collective and runs the creative workshop OONDA SPACE. Here she teaches riso printing and self-publishing, and provides space for the sharing of different voices and stories – from children to inmates, architecture students to neighborhood communities and other artists.

During the last two years, Marie has conducted seven workshops at Agder Art Academy, for a total of about 25 days in Froland prison. These workshops focused on building trusting relationships and creating a creative space where self-publishing became a tool for personal growth and expression. Several of these projects are shown in the exhibition Art as Punishment.
