Avatar Workshop during Summer Break

What qualities would you give yourself if you could choose? This year's summer school is inspired by the avatars in Steinar Haga Kristensen's exhibition. In this course we will work analogously and creatively with the avatar as a limitless expression of ourselves.
During the course we will create a new version of ourselves with the help of materials and tools such as cardboard, plaster, newspaper, glue, scissors and a knife. During the lunch break we will play in Slottsparken and make new friends. The course is suitable for all children aged 9-12. Choose between participating for two or four days.

About the course
During the summer holidays we are organising a mask workshop inspired by the avatars in Steinar Haga Kristensen's exhibition. In the exhibition, the avatar represents an artist with super abilities in a digitally constructed world. What abilities would you give yourself if you could choose? In this course we will work analogously and creatively with the avatar as a limitless expression of ourselves. In the workshop we design our own avatars and create extensions of our own bodies in the form of prostheses, doublings, camouflage and distortions of our own bodies. Imagine that you are a character in a new computer game, how would you look and what abilities would you most like to have? We focus on robot hands and head masking. The masks can be triplicates of faces, distorted visors and helmets, only your imagination sets the limits. We look at the avatars in Steinar's exhibition and how avatars have been portrayed in other people's art. The children get to choose what they want to start with, and we divide ourselves into robot hand and mask groups.
The course has been developed in collaboration with the visual artist Regine Josefsen and is conducted by Regine and the visual artist Mari Meen Halsøy, both of whom have extensive experience in communicating art to children and young people.
From experience, we know that the school holiday courses at Kunstnernes Hus quickly become fully booked, so don't wait too long to sign up!
