About the work
A minaret is not merely the place from which prayer is called; it is the site for a summons for memory, a beckoning for witnesses in moments of consequence.
Gaza is the world’s minaret. Its echoes reach far beyond its borders, resonating through the fragile architecture of our collective consciousness. Fragments of breath and breaking, entwined with the murmurs of those who refuse to be erased, whispering resistance.
This work is a sound experimental collage stitches field recordings from Gaza during the past 19 months. Archival Voices and sounds of freedom fighters worldwide blend with the silent cries of Gaza’s mothers, while students’ chants rise like liturgy against the machinery of empire.

With a background in journalism, social anthropology, and fine art, their practice blends critical research with material experimentation. Alabbasi's work explores themes of absence, disappearance, and systematic erasure, tracing how bodies, places, identity, and collective and personal memories are shaped by colonial and patriarchal violence in Palestine.
