The Zone of Interest is a groundbreaking and thought-provoking film from one of history's darkest chapters. Under the Cannes film festival it won both the Grand Prix and the FIPRESCI Prize.

About the film

Jonathan Glazers critically acclaimed Holocaust-drama takes us into the seemingly idyllic home of SS commander Rudolf Höss. The family's tastefully decorated villa and luscious garden gives the impressions of harmony, but the film also shows us the great denial that this life is built on: they live next to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The genocide committed there is presented through the film's gripping sound design; a dark backdrop to the family's bourgeois bliss. This is an emotionally charged film that captures the horrors in a unique way.

The Zone of Interest is based on the Martin Amis’ novel of the same name, and it redefines what a Holocaust film can be. Glazer, one of Britains most recognized filmmakers, presents a sharp and "well-played" exploration of the human ability to deny even the most monstrous crimes. Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüllers brilliant interpretations of the Höss couple gives the film a frightening authenticity, and the film was met with enthusiasm at Cannes.
