How to make the music for a silent film? Music has always been an important part of how we experience a film. It emphasizes the action on the screen and gives important hints about moods and atmosphere. During the silent film era, films were accompanied by live music, performed directly in the cinema hall. Kjetil Schjander Luhr is a true silent film pianist. He usually plays at the Cinematheque in Oslo.

About the performance

The screening and performance will introduce you to three famous silent films: Arrival of a Train, A Trip to the Moon and One Week. Kjetil is sitting ready in the cinema and will show you how music is an important element for the film experience, and how it can help to tell the story in the films.

In spring 2022, the Cinematheque in Oslo visits Kunstnernes Hus Cinema! In connection with the renovation of Filmens hus, the Cinematheque in Oslo will be closed for large parts of 2022. From April onwards, they will therefore arrange their Children's Cinematheque program at Kunstnernes Hus Cinema.
