Broker is a warm but bittersweet tale from the critically acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda about the family we choose and the family we have to let go of.
About the film
Sang-hyeon is the owner of a laundromat and works as a volunteer at a church, where his friend Dong-soo also works. Here, the two run an illegal business together: they occasionally steal children from the church's Baby Box to then sell them on the black market for adoption. When a young mother returns from delivering her child in one of the boxes, she spots them and decides to join them on a road trip to interview potential parents.
Featuring renowned Korean actors (Song Kang-ho, Dong-won Gang, Bae Doona, Ji-eun Lee and others), Brokers is a warm and elegant drama that challenges established notions of what a family is. For his performance, Song Kang-Ho (known from Parasite) received the award for Best Actor at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
