Rúnar Rúnarsson is a master at bringing out real emotions in his actors, and Ljósbrot is no exception. The filmmaker made his debut with Ildfjell in 2011 and has since directed Småfugler and Echo. Ljósbrot was the opening film in the Un Certain Regard program during this year's Cannes Film Festival.

About the film

Una and Diddi, two students at the Art College in Reykjavik, are head over heels in love. They have to keep the relationship hidden because Diddi already has a girlfriend, but now he will finally go home and break up with Klara.

But Diddi never comes back and Una is left with a bottomless sorrow that she cannot share with friends or family, because no one knew they were lovers. Bad things can get worse when Klara comes to town, but the meeting between the two lovers left behind gradually sparks and chases the darkness away.
