Free-spirited and surreal comedy about female chaos!
About the film
Since the world already is a destructive place, the two young women Marie and Marie think that they can just as easily contribute to the destruction. They venture out into a bourgeois and patriarchal society to have fun - with great energy and a voracious appetite for both food and vicious pranks.
Vera Chytilová (1929-2014) was the leading female force in the Czech new wave, inspired by the French and Polish waves of the 1960s. She had a background as a model and from studies in architecture, philosophy and film. In Daisies and several others of her films, a feminist starting point is obvious, but it is treated with great ambiguity. Daisies is a political film, but at the same time a politically incorrect film. This makes the film as fresh and challenging today as in an authoritarian communist society in the 60s.
